Notarization of Translation

25.07.25

Notarization of translation in Russia is required to give the translation legal force and to confirm the authenticity of the translator’s signature, making the translation official and acceptable for use in governmental and legal institutions.

This type of notarization certifies that the translation was performed by the specific translator, and the notary verifies the translator’s signature and qualifications, ensuring trust in the translation during official procedures both in Russia and abroad.

Main cases when notarization of translation is required:

•  Legal proceedings (contracts, court decisions, company charters).

•  Immigration procedures (birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas, passports).

•  Visa applications, citizenship, work permits, or residence permits.

•  Interactions with government bodies (tax authorities, police, civil registry offices, pension funds, etc.).

•  International business deals and cooperation with foreign partners.

•  Admission to educational institutions, inheritance processing, adoption, and other official procedures.

The procedure involves submitting the original document along with its translation, which is signed by the translator. The notary verifies the translator’s signature, seals the pages with an official stamp and their signature, thus granting the document legal validity.

Thus, notarization of a translation is necessary to confirm the authenticity of the translation and its recognition by official bodies in Russia and abroad, ensuring the legal validity of documents and transactions.
