Challenges of Interpretation

09.09.25

Simultaneous interpretation is a highly specialized activity that demands maximum concentration and instant reaction from the interpreter.

Unlike consecutive interpretation, where the interpreter speaks after the speaker, simultaneous interpretation occurs in real time, almost concurrently with the speech.

Key challenges faced by simultaneous interpreters include:

   •  High speech tempo: Interpreters must process and convey information rapidly, without delays.

   •  Limited time for reflection: There is no opportunity to “redo” a translation; mistakes are difficult to correct on the fly.

   •  Specific mindset required: Mastery of terminology, thorough understanding of context, and the ability to switch between languages instantly are essential.

   •  Psychological pressure: The role requires constant focus and mental stamina throughout the entire session.

   •  Noise and interference: Technical issues or strong accents can make the interpreter’s job significantly more difficult.

Simultaneous interpretation is truly an art form, requiring not only professional skills, but also broad erudition, high stress tolerance, and thorough preparation.

Interpreters typically work in pairs, alternating every 15–30 minutes. There's even a running joke in the industry that simultaneous interpreters don’t live long :) Our experience proves otherwise.

Lingvista is proud of its team of seasoned interpreters, ready to deliver fast and accurate interpretation for any event.
