Business & social responsibility: anything in common? Our APEC experience

APEC is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies, including the Russian one. The forum practically builds up a conversation of governance, science and business to ensure economic prosperity and make people’s life better. Our companies Lingvista and Smart Business Trips are also among active participants.

Aspiring to raise people’s prosperity, the APEC conducts project activities. Various working groups deal with various matters: from power industry and human potential development to the Pacific Ocean fisheries and ecology problems.

One of the forum’s key business dimensions is small and medium enterprise development in the Pacific Rim. The commercial director and co-founder of Lingvista and Smart Business Trips Iuliia Kostevich has been actively working in the small and medium enterprise development group of the APEC for a year and a half.

Taking part in the APEC is our social responsibility that promotes natural business development. How does it work? Here are some proof-points.

Participation in the APEC is an excellent way to study peculiarities of small and medium enterprise in the specified region and learn about new opportunities for development at the APEC markets. The Eastern direction has for a long time been attractive for the Russian economy, so working in the APEC is the best way to explore the business area and share interesting experience – that’s what we usually do at the events for exporters hold by us here in Tomsk.

This kind of work enables to get across to potential partners and set up the credibility level needed for the cooperation development. Otherwise, how could a Russian entrepreneur learn about practical factors of cooperating with such exotic economies as Malaysia, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea? The most reliable way is communication with governance, science and business representatives on site. Credibility is highly appreciated both in Asian cultures and all over the world. Thus, real meetings and face-to-face interactions mean a great advantage of working in the APEC.

There is a great example of the close connection between social activity and business development: a story of how Taiwan Institute of Economic Research became a client of Linvgista. We got in touch first at the APEC forum, on non-commercial basis. Then the need for translating into Russian arise at the Institute, so Lingvista gained a new foreign client – this time the one from Taiwan. Thus, we cooperate with Taiwan Institute of Economic Research in two ways: both non-commercial and commercial.
